Sue's teaching experience

Sue received her B.A. from Michigan State University with a teaching degree in Special Education / Elementary Education with a special certification in working with deaf and hard of hearing students.

After graduating, she taught deaf and hard of hearing students in a suburb of Chicago both on the elementary and high school level. She then moved to New Jersey where she taught middle school students at the Katzenbach School for the Deaf for 3 years. Sue went on to pursue a master’s degree at Rutgers University in social work. She interviewed for a social work position in the Hamilton, NJ school system, which lead to her being hired as a Resource Room teacher. Sue has been teaching K-5 special education students of various social economic backgrounds in replacement, inclusion and support programs ever since in Hamilton Township.

Sue's approach to teaching

Sue is known for her strong diagnostic skills and moving students academically by creating programs. She is well versed in assessment tools (DRA, Brigance), reading, and writing and math programs. Her love for yoga and the benefits she gained from her own personal practice lead her to explore kids yoga and become a certified kids yoga instructor.

Believing that all students are unique with their own strengths and weakness and that one must teach “the whole child” she wrote and received a one year grant to incorporate kids yoga into her special education program. The program was so successful that she has been a presenter at the NJ Teacher Convention on kids yoga in the classroom and continues to incorporate it into her teaching repertoire.
